Ugreen has established a solid reputation in the realm of computer accessories, particularly in the domain of power adapters. While I’ve previously covered Ugreen’s Nexode products, there’s a new addition to the Ugreen Nexode lineup that’s making quite a splash with its whopping 300W power delivery capacity.

Traditionally, larger power supplies come equipped with heatsinks and often incorporate fans to dissipate heat. However, the landscape is evolving. The conversion from AC to DC power, commonly referred to as rectifying, is a relatively efficient process, especially with the utilization of bridge rectifiers. Yet, the challenge lies in altering the voltage of DC power, which is not always as efficient due to a host of complex reasons, primarily rooted in resistance.

Enter switch-mode power supplies, also known as digital power supplies, which employ rapid on-off switching at extremely high frequencies to average out voltage levels. This method is the backbone of nearly all contemporary DC power supplies, eliminating the need for a comparatively expensive transformer to regulate voltage. However, the cost-effectiveness of materials can sometimes be offset by an unwelcome side effect: heat generation.

This brings us back to the Nexode 300W. Now, with this technical background in mind, what’s truly remarkable about Ugreen’s Nexode 300W is that it operates as a switch-mode power supply without the need for any cooling mechanisms, all while fitting comfortably in the palm of your hand. This remarkable feat is largely attributed to its utilization of Gallium Nitride (GaN), a semiconductor material embraced by the entire Nexode charger series, in conjunction with Ugreen’s innovative engineering prowess.

Gallium Nitride represents a relatively new entrant in the world of semiconductors, poised to revolutionize power electronics due to its remarkable conductivity properties, particularly when compared to traditional silicon. The result is less heat generation.

Now, you might be wondering about the practical applications of a 300W USB power adapter, and that’s a fair inquiry. To address it comprehensively, let’s delve into the key features of the Nexode 300W.

Nexode 300W Specifications:

  • Maximum Output Wattage: 300W
  • Semiconductor Type: Gallium Nitride (GaN)
  • Power Input: 100-240V 50/60Hz 4.2A Max
  • Fast Charging Support: USB PD 3.1, QC3.0, and More
  • Max Single-Port Wattage: 140W
  • Max Dual-Port Wattage: 240W (140W + 100W)
  • USB Ports: 4x USB Type-C, 1x USB Type A
  • AC Power Adapter: IEC C5 Connector

With its five ports optimized for fast charging, the utility of the Nexode 300W becomes apparent. Ugreen designed it not for a single device but for multiple devices concurrently. Whether it’s your laptop, phone, tablet, and more, you can charge them all simultaneously, and at the fastest possible rate. Moreover, it incorporates temperature monitoring to ensure that it never exceeds safe operational limits.

Port Configuration

The ports on the Nexode 300W are conveniently labeled as C1 through C4 and USB-A. Beginning with C1, positioned at the top, the ports progressively decrease in maximum power delivery as you move downwards towards the USB-A port. Specifically, C1 impressively handles up to 140W, while both C2 and C3 are capable of delivering up to 100W. Following these, C4 and the USB-A port offer power outputs of 45W and 22.5W, respectively.

Unboxing Experience

Ugreen has bestowed upon the Nexode 300W the same refined premium aesthetic for which the Nexode lineup is renowned. Unlike its predecessor, the Nexode 140W, the 300W model features a plastic exterior. While this material choice may slightly diminish the premium feel compared to the 140W, the substantial weight of the 300W compensates effectively. The device’s weight, combined with its largely uniform exterior, contributes to an overall sense of premium quality.

On the right-hand side, you’ll find “300w” prominently displayed in black lettering. While the font might lean towards a gaming aesthetic, it doesn’t detract from the overall design, mainly due to its discreet placement towards the rear. Turning the device over reveals high-quality silicone feet adhered to a silicone pad. Surprisingly, these silicone feet exude a remarkably premium feel, boasting a pleasant texture to the touch.

Inside the box, Ugreen provides the IEC C5 power adapter, specifically the North American variant in my case. Additionally, you’ll find the User Instruction manual and the 300W 5-Port PD GaN Fast Charger instruction manuals. Although there are two manuals, it appears that the User Instruction manual pertains to region-specific compliance, mentioning FCC and IC compliance for American and Canadian regulatory bodies, respectively. Lastly, but certainly not least, Ugreen includes a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable with a capacity of up to 240W.

The unboxing experience is straightforward and hassle-free. It’s easy to unpack, well-packaged, and adequately protected. Ugreen’s minimalist approach to packaging is commendable, with minimal non-recyclable materials used. This approach aligns seamlessly with environmentally conscious practices, which is particularly noteworthy for such a dense product.

In Conclusion

In summary, Ugreen has maintained the beloved Nexode aesthetic with the Nexode 300W, despite opting for a plastic exterior. It retains a premium feel and is well-suited for professional and business settings. Moreover, it offers the added benefit of keeping your cables organized—a blend of functionality and style.
